Optical Engineer

Engineering and System Integration Team / Experienced – Paris, Île-de-France, France - Full-time

The job

As an optical engineer, you will collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, to design, develop and assemble complex optical and opto-mechanical system as a part of Welinq’s industry-grade quantum memory product. You will also model and analyze complex assemblies for superior performance. You will play a key role in the development of Welinq’s hardware technologies. You will take your experience in delivering complex solutions, as an optical Engineer. You will join our growing R&D team to:

  •  Design, develop, assemble and test complex optical and opto-mechanical systems.

  • Conceptualize, model and analyze complex opto-mechanical assemblies.

  • Participate actively in the integration of prototypes and their maintenance.

  • Simulate optical performance of a proposed system.

  • Analyze the performances of the hardware and develop improvement.

  • Collaborate with engineers and physicists to design and optimize optical systems.

  • Ensure consistency within the R&D projects of Welinq and compile updated system specifications with other entities of the company

Required qualifications and Experience

  •  MSc, Engineering degree, or higher in Optical Engineering/Physics/Photonics or a related field.

  • Proven experience in designing and implementing complex optical systems, including lasers, optics, detectors, and fiber optics.

  • Knowledge of precision optical/mechanical alignment tools and techniques.

  • Experience with optical fiber-based system and components.

  • Experience in optical design and simulation software including Zemax and CAD/Solidworks.

  • Self-motivated, comfortable working both independently and collaboratively with people of all disciplines on complex projects and in a fast-paced environment.

  • Written and oral fluency in English.

Preferred qualifications and Experience

  •  5+ years combined academic + industry experience, including 2+ years in industry.

  • Knowledge of programming languages such as Python for data analysis and automation.

  • Experience with thermal, vibrational analysis and system integrity.

  • Experience with FDTD/FETD analysis.

  • Experience with optical fiber processing.

  • Experience with liaising with suppliers and machining centers for parts production.
