Optimization Engineer

The job

As part of the Algorithms and Distributed Quantum Computing Team in Paris, you will be an integral part of Welinq’s quantum computing research team. You will play a key role in the design and development of classical optimization techniques and tools within the context of distributed quantum computing. As an Optimization Engineer, you will join our growing R&D team to:

  • Provide efficient and scalable optimization software, a central component of Welinq's quantum algorithms activity.

  • Focus on research and development of novel classical optimization algorithms and techniques tailored for distributed quantum computing environments.

  • Conduct testing and performance analysis of optimization software components.

  • Collaborate between our multi-disciplinary team of quantum physicists, engineers, and software developers to explore the synergies between quantum hardware and software.

  • Keep up-to-date with the latest advancements in optimization techniques and distributed quantum computing. Apply state-of-the-art techniques to drive our quantum research forward.

  • Prepare and publish research papers, presenting findings at conferences and contributing to both the classical optimization and quantum science and technology communities.

  • Contribute to the generation of intellectual property though patents and novel algorithm designs.
  • Potentially lead and mentor a team of R&D engineers in the future.

Required qualifications and Experience:

  • A PhD in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Physics or related field.

  • Background in optimization theory, algorithms, and techniques.

  • Experience in programming languages such as Python, C/C++, or similar.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to develop innovative solutions to complex computational challenges.

  • A team player who can work effectively within a collaborative research environment.

Preferred qualifications and Experience:

  • Academic achievements and publications in optimization techniques will be highly valued.

  • Demonstrated experience with optimization libraries and tools.

  • Familiarity with distributed computing concepts and classical HPC techniques and tools like MPI, OpenMP and GPU programming will be highly valued.

  • Knowledge of distributed quantum computing and algorithms will be considered a plus.

  • Demonstrated track record of publications in renowned journals and conferences.
